Criticality analysis

Infrastructure and Cybersecurity
Copying files is not enough on its own. Let us plan together which data is backed up, how often, and how it is restored when you need it.
Operational Need
When licences are scattered across emails and spreadsheets, you end up with unused seats, missed renewals and unclear ownership.
The 1Byte Approach
Identifying critical data and applications. A plan for backup frequency, retention period and off-site copies. Restricting access and deletion rights on backups. Validating recovery steps with sample restores.
Working Model
Which data and applications are critical for the business is identified.
How much data loss and downtime is acceptable is set as a target.
Where, how often and how many backup copies are made is designed; at least one copy is kept elsewhere.
Backups are set up and access and delete rights on them are restricted.
Test restores regularly confirm that the backups actually work.
Business Outcomes
Common Questions
No. Backup reduces the risk of data loss; how quickly a service returns depends on the infrastructure in use and the recovery plan. Expectations should be assessed together with test results.
Keep at least three copies of the data, on two different types of media, with one copy stored in a separate location. The goal is that no single failure or attack affects every copy.
Sample files and systems are restored at regular intervals and the result is recorded. A backup that has never been restored is not assumed to work.
